Dreams occupy a strange country.
They speak in symbols rather than ordinary sentences.
A dream may contain memories, emotions, fears, desires, bodily sensations, imagination, ordinary neurological processes, spiritual symbolism—or several of these at once.
Do not assume that every dream is a message from a spirit.
Instead, learn to listen.
Keep a Dream Book
Place a notebook beside your bed.
When you awaken, do not immediately reach for your phone.
Remain still.
Ask yourself:
- Where was I?
- Who was present?
- What happened?
- What did I feel?
- What did I notice first?
Then write.
Even fragments matter.
A color.
A word.
A face.
A door.
A strange animal.
A sensation.
The more quickly you record the dream, the more detail you are likely to retain.
Read the Dream in Layers
First: The literal layer
What actually happened?
Write the dream as a sequence of events.
Second: The emotional layer
What did you feel?
Fear?
Longing?
Anger?
Peace?
Curiosity?
The emotional response may be more significant than the object itself.
Third: The symbolic layer
What symbols appeared?
A key.
A river.
A dead relative.
A snake.
A house.
A forest.
A crow.
Fourth: The personal layer
What does that symbol mean to you?
A snake may represent danger to one person and transformation or sacred power to another.
Your personal associations matter.
Fifth: The spiritual layer
Only after considering the previous layers should you ask whether the dream may relate to your spiritual practice.
If a spirit companion appears, record exactly what happened.
Do not immediately assume that the appearance proves the spirit was present.
Look for consistency across dreams and waking experiences.
Dream Questions
Before sleeping, you can write a question:
"Show me what I need to understand about my relationship with ___."
Place the paper beside your bed.
Then sleep.
When you awaken, record whatever you remember.
Do this repeatedly rather than judging the method from one dream.
Over time, recurring symbols may emerge.
That recurring language is worth studying.
