Prepare paper and pen.
Sit quietly.
Clear your mind.
Write your question at the top of the page.
If you are attempting communication with your companion, you may say:
"I open this page as a place of communication. If you wish to speak, you may do so."
Then begin writing.
Do not plan.
Do not edit.
Do not stop because the sentence seems foolish.
Write whatever comes.
A word.
A phrase.
A repeated sentence.
Fragments.
Symbols.
Nothing.
Everything.
When the session ends, stop.
Only then read the page.
Circle anything that stands out.
Do not assume that everything written came from an external spirit. Automatic writing may also draw upon unconscious thoughts, memories, expectations, and associations.
That possibility does not make the exercise meaningless.
It makes discernment important.
