Tea
Use loose-leaf tea.
Drink slowly while contemplating your question.
Leave a little liquid and the leaves within the cup.
Swirl.
Invert the cup upon its saucer.
Allow the remaining leaves to settle.
Turn the cup upright.
Now look.
Do not begin with a book of symbols.
Begin with your own eyes.
What shape appears first?
An animal?
A person?
A letter?
A road?
A tree?
A crown?
A weapon?
A heart?
Then consider where the symbol lies within the cup and what surrounds it.
Traditional tasseography systems often assign meaning to different areas of the cup and interpret neighboring symbols together rather than individually.
Coffee
Coffee grounds may be read in much the same manner.
Leave enough grounds behind to form visible patterns.
Swirl.
Invert.
Allow the grounds to settle.
Then read the landscape.
One symbol may tell little.
Several symbols forming a coherent image may tell considerably more.
Do not force every speck into a message.
